Job Vacancy: IQSA Blog Coordinator

Job Description: The IQSA Blog Coordinator serves as a member of the Executive Office reporting directly to the Executive Director. This position entails the solicitation and composition of weekly blog posts as well as the evaluation of guest submissions for publication on IQSA’s communication channels. The Blog Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director and Assistant to maintain a schedule of weekly content relevant to IQSA and its mission.

Qualifications: The required duties can be performed remotely/from home so long as candidates have reliable access to online communication channels. Knowledge of Middle Eastern and European languages is strongly desired. The candidate must show attention to detail and a professional communication style and work ethic. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to foster positive relationships with contributors, kin-organizations, publishers, and others as needed. The candidate should also have a background in Qur’anic Studies, Late Antiquity, Islamic Studies or related field (preferably graduate level or higher) and familiarity with best practices in online publishing and content management.

Compensation: This position is Volunteer/Service based. The successful candidate will receive (1) complementary IQSA membership, including but not limited to access to publications, the membership directory, professional development opportunities, and (2) conference support as available.

The University of Cincinnati invites applications by advanced assistant and associate professors to fill the Inayat and Ishrat Malik Professorship in Islamic Studies. The position will begin in the fall of 2019. The search committee welcomes applications from scholars in the field of Islamic Studies, with research and teaching interests in such areas as Anthropology, Comparative Religion, Arabic, Ethics, Gender Studies, History, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, and Theology.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. is required, as well as prior teaching experience and evidence of scholarly excellence.

The successful candidate is expected to engage in research, to teach on the graduate and undergraduate  levels in their area, and to contribute, via interdisciplinary education and as appropriate, to undergraduate certificate programs in such areas as Religious Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Arabic Studies, Asian Studies, Security Studies, and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. The successful candidate should be thoroughly knowledgeable in the Islamic intellectual tradition and in Qur’anic Studies. Enthusiasm to present Islamic teachings in multiple areas of thought and experience and in a style accessible to diverse student audiences is essential. This effort will include the presentation of at least one public lecture in Islamic Studies each academic year. The candidate should also have a track-record of engagement with the Islamic community, demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, and be able to build productive relationships with academic partners across campus and with interfaith and cultural groups in the Cincinnati area.

The tenure-track position will be housed in the department in the College of Arts & Sciences most appropriate to the candidate’s degree. Joint appointments are possible.

The successful candidate will be expected to make service contributions to the mission of that department and commensurate with the position of Professorship in Islamic Studies. Job Vacancy: IQSA Grant Writer

Job Description: The IQSA Grant Writer works as a member of the Executive Office reporting directly to the Executive Director.The Grant Writer assists the Executive Director to prepare, submit, and manage proposals toward private and public associations for funding and support of the organizations. The Grant Writer is responsible for maintaining current and archival records of proposals and assist with other fundraising projects upon request.

Qualifications: The candidate should have a working knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies for 501(c) nonprofit organizations. The candidate must demonstrate effective written communication skills including structured, persuasive proposals and boilerplate language associated with grant composition. A background in the Humanities or Social Sciences is strongly desired. The candidate should have strong editing skills, attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and familiarity with basic fundraising techniques and strategies. The candidate should also show enthusiasm for IQSA’s mission and work as a scholarly guild.

IQSA Job Vacancy: Copy Editor

The International Qur’anic Studies Association (IQSA), a non-profit organization, seeks a copyeditor for freelance contract work on its three scholarly publication projects: JIQSA (annual journal), ISIQ (monograph series), RQR (monthly review of books). This is a deadline-driven position with overlapping seasonal workflows where diverse specialized texts require detailed technical editing in short turnaround times. Work is remote-desk and may be performed from any geographical location in the United States. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys high-performance work and is looking to join a collaborative team of scholars in a dynamic professional field.

Position will report directly to Head Editor of JIQSA, but will also collaborate with other members of IQSA’s editorial and executive teams as appropriate.

Position open until filled.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • check texts to ensure they are well written and logically structured
  • correct grammar and spelling
  • check illustrations and captions
  • ensure texts conform to JIQSA Style Guide
  • check facts and raise queries with Head Editor
  • look out for potential legal problems and discuss them with the Head Editor
  • other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: B.A. in English, journalism, Near Eastern languages, or other relevant field in the liberal arts, humanities or social sciences
  • excellent written English, including proper spelling and grammar
  • working knowledge of classical Arabic and relevant systems of transliteration
  • a meticulous approach to texts and an eye for detail
  • the ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
  • strong concentration and ability to focus on texts that may be lengthy and highly technical
  • clear judgement in applying house style
  • the ability to retain authors’ voices after editing
  • excellent collaboration skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.A. or graduate study in relevant field
  • specialist interest in Qur’anic Studies or related disciplines
  • working knowledge of additional foreign languages (esp. Persian, Hebrew, Syriac, Greek, German, or French)

  • Contract may be negotiated as hourly or by project; rate commensurate with qualifications and experience
