IQSA 2026 Annual Meeting

$500 AWARD   |   GRADUATE STUDENTS & EARLY CAREER SCHOLARS |   JIQSA ELIGIBILITY

The International Qur’anic Studies Association (IQSA) invites submissions for the Andrew Rippin Best Paper Prize, awarded to the best paper delivered at IQSA’s 2026 Annual Meeting by a graduate student or early career scholar (Ph.D. awarded in 2021 or later).

The prize honors Andrew Rippin, inaugural president of the learned society.

What the Winner Receives

$500, plus detailed feedback and guidance from the award committee to help develop the paper into a scholarly article suitable for submission to the Journal of the International Qur’anic Studies Association (JIQSA), subject to peer review.

Submission Requirements

Scholars should submit a draft of the paper they presented at the 2026 Annual Meeting in Vienna.

Length: No more than 15 double-spaced pages (or 3,750 words, including bibliography)

Footnotes: Limited or no footnotes are acceptable. The submission does not need to be journal-ready.

The prize winner will be announced at the end of October. The winner should then be prepared to submit a fully revised version of the winning article to JIQSA by January 31, 2027. The prize winner commits to submitting the paper to JIQSA. Publication of the final version is contingent upon review by the award committee and editorial staff of JIQSA.
